Bantam Cochin Chickens

Regard it as just as desirable to build a chicken house as to build a cathedral.
— Frank Lloyd Wright

In August 2013, we embarked on our latest adventure - chickens!  Starting small, with 5 chicks from a local farm, we established a quality flock of bantam chickens.  As with the ducks and geese, these birds free range on pesticide-free land, protected by electric predator fencing.

Bantams are suitable for smaller backyards as they do not need as much space as other breeds.  Bantam hens are also used as laying hens, with some breeds laying up to 150 eggs per year.  However, Bantam eggs are only about one-half to one-third the size of a regular hen egg.  Bantams have become increasingly popular as pets as well as for show purposes because they are smaller and have more varied and exotic colors and feather patterns than other chickens.

  • Chickens are hatched on order, $5 per chick, straight run only.  Please contact us to arrange your hatch.
